Get your paperwork together

Your financial adviser might ask for key financial documents that provide a clear picture of your total financial situation.

It will help them understand:

  • Incomes: your salary, investments and government benefits.
  • Assets: your house, car, savings, and investments.
  • Debts: credit cards, mortgage and personal loans.

These documents can include, but are not limited to:

  • bank statements including credit card statements, mortgage or leasing documents
  • superannuation statements
  • a household budget or list of living expenses
  • personal insurance policy statements.

Other ways to provide documents

Some financial advisers will ask for your financial information before your first meeting. In this case, they’ll provide you with instructions for how to do this. For example, they may use an app or online platform that accepts uploaded documents.

This lets them review your financial situation before you meet and focus on discussing your goals and priorities.

Here's some questions to ask your adviser during your first meeting.
